The Mass Law states that doubling the mass (weight) of building materials will reduce sound transmission by up to only 6 decibels (dB). For example, a 4” thick concrete slab has a sound transmission loss (TL) of 42 dB at 250 Hz. Increasing the slab thickness to 8” will increase the TL to 48 dB.
